X47 Drops: Ultraviolette’s Radar-Equipped Crossover

When a brand that’s already pushing boundaries in street EVs steps into crossover territory, we all lean in. Ultraviolette’s freshly launched X47 is that move — equal parts urban street machine and light dual-sport. For bikers who already know what to expect from the F77 line, this new bike feels like a natural extension.

From Bengaluru to the World: A Quick UV Primer

Ultraviolette (aka UV) began in 2016, founded in Bangalore by Narayan Subramaniam (CEO) and Niraj Rajmohan (CTO). Their mission: a performance electric motorcycle, not just a commuter EV. Their flagship F77 launched in late 2022, with the Mach 2 upgrade following in 2024, bringing smart tech, improved firmware, and European certifications.

UV also rolled out their UV Supernova fast-charging network in India and has been pushing exports into Europe. So far, the F77 line has carved out a niche: sporty, mid-range performance EVs with smart features and a sensible price point. The X47 aims to broaden the appeal by blending that DNA with more usability in mixed terrain.

What Is the X47, Exactly?

Ultraviolette calls the X47 a crossover electric motorcycle — a machine that toes the line between streetfighter and adventure tourer. Think 60/40 split: it’s not a hardcore off-roader, but it’s more forgiving on broken surfaces, gravel roads, and rural stretches. Some have even called it “three bikes in one.” That’s not hyperbole: wheel travel, upright ergonomics, and off-road cues give it flexibility beyond pure street or track.

But it’s not built from scratch on a wild new base. UV retains core powertrain components from the F77 line but wraps them in a fresh chassis, cast aluminium subframe, narrower swingarm, and more adventure-oriented geometry.

Here's the twist: Where the X47 really marks a step forward is in safety & rider assist. It debuts UV’s Hypersense radar suite, mounted at 77 GHz, tracking up to about 200 m. That brings blind-spot detection, lane change assist, overtake alerts, and rear collision warning. A dual 1080p dashcam (front + rear) comes integrated, and a secondary display sits above the main TFT to show camera/ADAS feeds.

Ultraviolette claims this is a first for the segment — radar + camera built in as standard. So yes, you get a tech leap over the F77 in the assist/safety domain, with more real-world viability.

X47 Technical Spec Highlights

Here're the headline specs (with caveats — real world will vary).

  • Power / Torque: 30 kW peak (~40 hp) and 100 Nm motor torque, translating to ~610 Nm at the rear wheel.

  • Top Speed: ~145 km/h (claimed)

  • 0–60 km/h: ~2.7 seconds

  • 0–100 km/h: ~8.1 seconds (in higher pack) not ground breaking!

  • Battery / Range: Two options • 7.1 kWh → IDC-claimed ~211 km • 10.3 kWh → IDC-claimed ~323 km

  • Onboard Charger: 1.6 kW air-cooled unit built into the chassis (so you don’t lug it around)

  • Frame / Suspension / Brakes: • 41 mm USD forks up front, preload-adjustable mono shock rear with ~170 mm travel • Brakes: 320 mm front disc, 230 mm rear disc (ByBre / Brembo style) with dual-channel ABS (rear switchable)

  • Weight / Clearance: The heavier 10.3 kWh version is ~207 kg kerb, clearance ~208 mm

  • Electronics / Aids: 4 levels of traction control (we think 3 plus OFF), 9 levels of regenerative braking, dynamic stability control (DSC), switchable ABS rear + regen behaviour for better braking stability.

  • Rider Interface / Connectivity: 5-inch TFT with lean / angle display, a 2.5-inch touchscreen above for ADAS / camera view, eSIM for connectivity, OTA updates, remote diagnostics.

In brief — the 10.3 kWh variant is the one with true highway and touring ambitions. The 7.1 kWh version is more city / mixed usage.

Availability

Searching for your local dealer already? Let's quickly cover availability: Currently, the X47 is India only, but the company has publicly stated ambitions to export further globally. Having already launched a full-blown sales network in Europe (which includes the UK), we can expect the X47 to land there first, with the US and Australia among potential future markets. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for you. Like our Facebook page for the latest.

The Desert Wing Edition

Want a bit more rugged cred straight out of the showroom? Opt for the Desert Wing. This Special Edition isn’t a new bike so much as a ready-to-ride touring kit straight from the factory floor. Think of it as Ultraviolette’s own adventure-touring package: handguards, TPMS, and crash guards as standard, bundled with a desert-toned paint scheme. The core X47 performance and ADAS tech remain unchanged, but with the Desert Wing, you’re pre-equipped for that weekend scramble or dirt-road detour.

What It Means for Riders

From riding posture to practicality, the X47 brings a more accessible package than the F77 for many scenarios. The upright ergonomics, higher ground clearance, and more compliant suspension make it better suited to rough pavement or rural stretches. It doesn’t claim to replace hardcore ADV machines, but it definitely offers you versatility.

The radar + camera suite is U/V’s provocateur: it could raise expectations in the EV bike world for active rider assist. In markets like the UK, Europe, USA, and Australia, that could be a differentiator when safety tech is increasingly part of consumer expectations.

From a strategic point, the X47 lowers the entry barrier to UV’s tech: the base 7.1 kWh model is priced below the F77 line domestically in India. As UV scales, the X47 might become the volume model that subsidizes further R&D and network rollout globally.

But caveats remain. Real usable range, battery degradation, mass & balance, and how the radar/dashcam system behaves under real dynamics (vibration, dirt, weather, lean, and pitch) will be key. Also, in export markets, homologation, spare parts, service network, and repairability will govern whether X47 sees serious presence or becomes niche.

Final Thought

The X47 is a smart pivot from Ultraviolette: keeping the performance DNA of the F77 family but stretching it into more usable territory with ADAS, “crossover” geometry, and flexibility. It might not dominate hardcore adventure segments — but within the performance EV two-wheel space, it raises the bar for what “do-everything” electric bikes can attempt.

But questions still remain, like why so slow off the mark? We hope to get more data from the all-important rider reviews. As soon as it lands in the UK, we’ll be booking a test ride and be reporting back on these with haste. Until then, we wait patiently.

For real bikers, this could be the first of a wave: your next EV might not just be street-fast — it may also watch your back.

Ride safe, folks
