Augment 360: The Electric Moped You Can Take Indoors

Most electric mopeds are designed to get you somewhere. The Augment 360 is designed to solve the problem of where to park when you get there. It folds down in seconds and can be rolled into a lift, apartment or office when you're done riding.
For urban riders who don't have a garage, that could be more useful than another 20 miles of range.
The Moped You Can Take Home
The Augment 360 is a small electric moped with a pretty big idea: instead of making urban riders find somewhere to park a 100kg motorcycle, make the bloody thing small enough to fit through the front door.
The 360 weighs just 36kg ready to ride. But is it actually a two-wheeled answer to one of urban riding's biggest headaches?
It has enough performance to be useful. It's capable of 45 km/h, putting it into the faster L1e-B moped category in Europe, while Augment claims around 50km of real-world range from its 1.08kWh removable battery. That battery weighs around 5kg, so carrying it upstairs to charge shouldn't require a trip to the gym.
The folding mechanism is the clever bit, but it's also the part we'll be watching. Augment has had to build a frame that can carry a rider, deal with everyday road abuse and still fold up repeatedly. The company acknowledges that long-term durability is one of the areas that needs to prove itself.
At €1,890 including the battery, the 360 is priced like an affordable e-bike, which gives it a much better shot at becoming something people actually buy rather than something they admire on Instagram and forget about.
There is a touch of the Egret GTs about the whole thing, but this isn't a tiny scooter with a seat designed to live in the boot of a car. Augment says the 360 is intended to be ridden as an everyday urban machine.
Where Can You Buy the Augment 360?
For now, it's a European affair. Orders are being taken directly through Augment's website, with the company offering delivery from its EU stock locations. If you're in the UK, USA or elsewhere outside, you'll need to wait for Augment to expand its sales network.

But here's the question: why buy this instead of an e-bike?
For plenty of urban riders, an e-bike still makes more sense. It's simpler, cheaper to run and, in most regions, a legal EAPC doesn't need the registration and insurance that a 45 km/h moped does.
The Augment's answer is what happens when you get out into traffic. At 45 km/h, it's operating in a completely different part of urban traffic. It can keep up more easily, and you don't need to pedal your arse off to maintain that speed. When you're covering a few miles across town rather than nipping to the shops, that extra speed could make a real difference.
E-bikes have their own advantages: access to cycle lanes, no insurance and no licence for a legal EAPC. But for some riders, they simply don't cut it. Once you're mixing with faster-moving traffic, having the extra speed, weight and road presence of a proper moped can make a difference.
So it's not trying to replace your e-bike, and it's not trying to replace your motorbike. It's just asking whether a 45 km/h, 36kg moped that you can roll into your flat is a better urban tool than either.
If that folding mechanism can survive years of real-world seat time, it might have an answer.
