Positive Wants to Take EGERA to Market

Positive EGERA

Positive Motorcycles is back on the radar, and this time the story is less about the EGERA itself and more about whether the Italian outfit can get riders on the road. The Lake Como startup says it is entering a pre-seed round after five years of self-funded R&D, with a validated prototype, identified distributors, secured suppliers and road testing up to 175 km/h (108 mph) already under its belt.

We covered the bike before in Café-Scrambler Soul, Italian DNA: Positive’s EGERA, when the big talking point was the machine’s style and spec sheet. This new update moves things a bit. Positive is no longer just saying “look at our bike.” It's now saying “help us build a business.”

That matters, because riders have been down this road before. A sharp prototype is one thing. Getting bikes built, sold, serviced and supported is definitely the hard bit.

What’s the EGERA?

The EGERA is Positive’s first bike, a lightweight Made-in-Italy electric aimed at commuters but with enough in the spec to suggest it isn't a soft option. A liquid-cooled motor - 30 kW peak, 85 Nm, regenerative braking, IP67 protection and 152 kg weight. Published specs also point to a 7.7 kWh battery, roughly 150 km of range, a 125 km/h (77.6 mph) top speed and 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in around six seconds. In other words, this is not just an anonymous urban appliance. It is a slim, stylish mid-weight with Italian identity and enough hardware to back up the look.

The BCB Take

This is where Positive starts becoming a manufacturer or stays a very handsome startup with a working prototype and a LinkedIn account.

On paper, the EGERA is very promising. Plus it's built, tested and has the data to back it up. The first part is done. Now it's just the grown-up stuff: production, dealer support, supply chain stability and an actual route to customers.

We are rooting for Positive here. The sector doesn't need more bad news, it needs bikes like this to make it out of prototype purgatory and onto the road. Bring it to market.

Ride safe, folks.
