Naked isn’t Naked Anymore
There’s a word doing the rounds in the e-moto space: naked. You’ll see it pinned to bikes like the Honda WN7, minimal bodywork and the streetfighter-ish silhouette. It tells you what kind of riding you’re getting into straight away.
Same Name, New Game

The thing is, “naked” came from the petrol era. Back then, it meant stripping things back and letting the engine do the talking. Big metal centrepiece, fully on display.
Electric doesn't have to change the brief. Instead of an engine, there's battery architecture, motor placement and cooling systems. There's plenty there to define the look, if we let it.
It’s something designers like Hugo Eccles have already been exploring, building bikes where the tech isn’t hidden, it is the design. We spoke to Hugo on this exact topic in our piece, How to Design an Electric Motorcycle.
Most electric nakeds look the part, but take a closer look and there's not much to see. The bodywork hides the battery, motor and everything else that makes them electric. They might have the naked-bike look, but where's the exposed hardware?
Where It Gets Interesting

You’ve got builds that push past the idea. The Lightfighter V3-RH doesn’t just hint at what’s underneath; it shows you everything worth seeing. Battery, motor, structure, wiring. It's all part of the visual. It’s not styled to look naked, it just is.
Same energy with the more DIY side of the scene. The kind of machines that feel like they’ve rolled straight out of Back to the Future.
The BCB Take: A Category Waiting to Happen

So maybe “naked” is just the starting point. A familiar label while the industry finds its feet. But there’s space here for something much cooler. A category that actually reflects what electric bikes can do visually, not just how they ride.
Call it exposed. Call it raw. Call it whatever. The point is, there’s a lane opening up for bikes that wear their tech on the outside and make a feature of it, and we want to see more of that. Give us wires, controllers, battery cooling fins. Let's celebrate the truly naked e-moto.
Ride safe, folks.
