If you're on the hunt for an urban city commuter with space-age design and a good splash of retro vibes, look no further than the EX-1 from Rally-Wind.

It's always exciting to witness an original concept reach its completion. Since October 2024, we've been waiting for news on the EX-1. This week, Lodowing Insuin, director and co-founder of Rally-Wind, reached out to Buck City Biker with an eagerly awaited update.
What is the RW EX-1?
The e-moto urban commuter sector is a large field to play in. Many e-motorcycles fit into this category simply due to their limited speed and range. Here at BCB, we classify road bikes with a top speed of 60 mph (100 km/h) or less, a city commuter. The vast majority of e-scooters also fit this bracket, not being capable of highway travel. At Rally-Wind, there's no hiding, they've developed a city commuter specifically for its intended purpose.

Developed by a team of two passionate motorcycle enthusiasts and engineers who grew up and studied in Germany, the EX-1 blends retro-inspired design with modern frame technology. The frame's manufacturing process is distinctive and highly noticeable, contributing to the EX-1's exceptionally unique lines. This model aims to offer an alternative experience for urban commuters and motorcycle aficionados alike.

Framing the Space-Age

Drawing inspiration from the café racers of the 1960s, the RW EX-1 features a classic yet futuristic aesthetic. Its frame is constructed from lightweight aluminium tubing, contributing to both durability and performance. The frame concept is produced utilising the team's in-house manufacturing facility. Lodowing told Buck City Biker:
"The frame is developed from a single piece aluminium tube that is bent, cut and then welded back together to create our original design concept. This offers superior rigidity, zero corrosion and a cool aesthetic."
It certainly looks cool and is a compelling alternative to other available e-motos. With the sheer number of products coming to (and leaving) the market, it could be this initiative and commitment to design that sets the EX-1 apart.
Design and Features

Aluminium makes up the majority of the construction material, including the battery compartment, which is positioned with a cool race slant and has ample room for future upgrades. The battery door is also aluminium, as are the exposed seat supports. The lack of fairing really shows off the frame construction and further enhances the café racer vibe.
The rear hub motor is supported by a single-sided swingarm, giving the bike a sleek appearance. Inverted front forks give a sporty appeal and stability in the corners, and the oval headlight and mudguards blend retro charm with contemporary technology. All in all, it's a good-looking machine.
Company Background

Founded by Dr. Cheng Li and Lodowing Insuin, a China-born and German-raised duo, Rally-Wind Motorcycle leverages over 30 years of experience in the development and production of motorcycle chassis and fuel tanks for brands such as KTM and CFMOTO, among others. Rally-Wind's parent company, RW&DITOLU HK CO. Limited, based in Hong Kong, still provides these services today.
The company's expertise is evident in the RW EX-1's design and engineering, reflecting an understanding of motorcycle dynamics and rider expectations.
Market Position and Availability
Rally-Wind has positioned the RW EX-1 competitively within the electric motorcycle market, offering a blend of performance, design, and affordability. With EU certification at full steam, the EX-1 should be available in the UK and EU by July. In the meantime, Rally-Wind is building marketing materials and further developing their website.
USA, I'm sorry to report it's not available yet, but watch this space. I'm sure if Rally Wind has a successful launch in Europe, they will be keen to explore the USA marketplace.
The RW EX-1 will be priced at €9,999 ($10,901) (£8,424) and is accessible to riders with an A1 (EU) motorcycle licence.
Final Thoughts
The Rally-Wind RW EX-1 stands out in the crowd and will definitely turn heads. It's a testament to the evolution of electric motorcycle design, offering a harmony of classic lines and modern technology. With its features, it presents a compelling option for those seeking urban e-mobility without compromising on style or performance.
