Segway Xaber 300 Takes Aim At The Sur-Ron Empire

Segway’s done playing around in gadget-bike territory. The new Xaber 300 is a direct swing at the Sur-Ron and Talaria crowd, and for the first time, riders might actually take them seriously.

After years of e-motos blurring the line between mountain bike, pit bike and full dirt machine, Segway looks to have built something aimed squarely at riders who actually want to thrash the thing.

With US deliveries starting May 15 and pricing set at $5,299, the Xaber 300 could land right in the sweet spot for riders wanting proper dirt capability without full-sized MX bike commitment.

Xaber 300: Dirt Ready, Spec Heavy

The Xaber 300 pushes 21kW peak power from a 72V 44Ah battery setup, with Segway claiming a 60mph top speed and 0-50mph in 5.5 seconds.

More importantly, it weighs just 187 pounds (85kg). Lightweight e-moto performance has always been about the balance between power, handling and chuckability on trails. On paper at least, the Xaber 300 looks like it understands the assignment.

The bike gets a premium Marzocchi setup, with 37mm inverted forks up front and a rear shock paired with a multi-link system. Braking is handled by four-piston callipers with 220mm rotors, while the frame is a forged aluminium unit inspired by Segway’s Dakar X1000 prototype.

Of course, Segway still can’t resist stuffing the bike full of tech. There's three ride modes, traction control, regen braking, GPS tracking, hill hold and OTA updates. Riders also get a “Virtual e-Clutch” system designed for petrol converts.

It doesn't stop there. A “Virtual Wheelie Coach” is apparently coming in future software updates. Riders can tune wheelie angles through an app, which sounds either brilliant or deeply cursed depending on how old and grumpy you are. Still, none of the tech really matters if the chassis delivers.

And that’s where the Xaber 300 seems different. Segway isn’t pitching this as a commuter gadget. This is aimed directly at the lightweight e-dirt market currently dominated by Sur-Ron, Talaria and a growing pile of hungry challengers.

The BCB Take

Sur-Ron exploded because it gave riders an affordable, lightweight machine that was easy to jump into. The Xaber 300 is Segway’s attempt to capture that same energy, only with more polish and a more mature platform underneath it.

But riders don't care about flashy apps if the suspension folds after two hard weekends. If Segway can nail the chassis, that’s where dirt reputations get made.

Now comes the hard part. Getting these bikes into the hands of riders who will send them off jumps, drown them in mud and abuse them properly. If the Xaber 300 survives the storm, it could become the next gateway drug into e-moto.

Ride safe, folks
