S4 Honcho Race Series: LiveWire's Motorcycle Culture Playbook

LiveWire has announced a dedicated race series for its upcoming S4 Honcho, giving owners a place to race, modify and have some fun with the bike once it arrives.

To mark the announcement, they've also teamed up with Gas Monkey Garage to reveal a one-off custom S4 Honcho build.

LiveWire's Play for Motorcycle Culture

Most manufacturers launch a bike first and worry about building a community later. LiveWire is flipping that script with the S4 Honcho and trying to give riders a reason to get involved from day one.

The one-make flat-track championship is set to launch in 2027 and will be open to S4 Honcho owners. With everyone competing on the same machinery, the focus shifts away from who has the biggest wallet and onto rider skill, close racing, and plenty of grins along the way.

The Gas Monkey collaboration fits neatly into that approach. Following the previous S2 Del Mar custom build, the upcoming S4 Honcho project shows where LiveWire wants to take the bike, treating it as a blank canvas for riders and builders rather than just another electric motorcycle. Like last time, LiveWire isn't just dropping a finished custom and walking away. Riders will be able to follow the transformation as the build takes shape, seeing first-hand what the S4 Honcho could become in the right hands.

The playbook feels familiar. The Honda Grom became a cult favourite not because it had huge performance, but because riders made it their own. They customised them, raced them, shared builds online and turned a small, affordable bike into something far bigger than the sum of its parts.

Whether the S4 Honcho follows the same path remains to be seen, but LiveWire is clearly thinking beyond simply selling motorcycles. It's trying to create the kind of ownership experience that keeps riders coming back.

The BCB Take

You can't manufacture motorcycle culture, but you can give riders the ingredients.

Before the first S4 Honcho has reached customers, LiveWire is already setting the tone. The marketing so far hasn't been about batteries and specs, it's all about fun, personality and the reason people ride motorcycles in the first place. Add in custom builders and a planned race series, and it's clear LiveWire is trying to build a culture around the bike, not just sell another model.

But the real test won't be the custom builds or the marketing. It'll be whether riders actually buy the Honcho, start modifying it and keep turning up to race. That's what made the Grom a phenomenon, and it's something no manufacturer can create on its own.

Ride safe, folks.
