Hero MotoCorp’s Electric Expansion: Vida, Zero, and VxZ

Updated: Feb 2

Hero MotoCorp is making a deliberate play to lock in more territory in the e-moto space, rolling out new EV patents, deeper collaborations, and doubling down on its Vida brand.

Project VxZ

The New Delhi OEM has started filing patents for Project VxZ, a full-size electric motorcycle under the Vida brand. This signals that Hero isn’t just testing the waters in electric bikes—it’s committing to a comprehensive Vida line-up. First revealed at EICMA 2025 along side the naked concept UBEX, the VxZ is being developed in collaboration with Zero Motorcycles, though the patent filings indicate it won’t be a rebadged Zero.

Instead, documents suggest a ground-up platform, built entirely separate from Zero’s architecture. With production rumoured around EICMA 2026, Project VxZ is shaping up as a global e-moto, aimed not just at India but at international riders, rounding out Vida’s pipeline from youth to adult machines. The UK and Europe are set to lead the way, with Hero’s sights likely on wider global markets soon after.

Meanwhile, Hero's electric brand Vida has officially launched the DIRT.E K3 — a size‑adjustable electric dirt bike aimed at kids aged roughly 4–10 years — in India at an introductory price of ₹69,990 for the first batch. Also debuting at EICMA 2025, the model marks Vida’s first foray into youth-focused off-road e-motos. The bike features a three-stage adjustable chassis that grows with the rider, multiple riding modes to help young riders build confidence and skill, and a compact electric powertrain built for beginner off-road riders.

While the DIRT.E K3 is designed specifically for the Indian market, the Vida Z electric scooter is positioned to spearhead Hero’s push into the UK and key European markets.

Originally planned for late 2025, the rollout has so far been slower than expected, with no confirmed sales outside India. Hero has, however, reportedly lined up distribution agreements across the UK, France, Spain, and Italy.

The Vida Z was first showcased alongside Hero’s broader future mobility line-up. It’s built on a modular architecture with removable batteries and designed for everyday urban use — commutes, errands, and short hops — giving international riders a taste of Hero’s electric ambitions.

Why It Matters

By bringing both the DIRT.E K3 and Project VxZ under the Vida brand, Hero is building a full-spectrum electric motorcycle line-up — from pint-size off-roaders to full-size bikes aimed at global riders.

For buyers, that means more choice, more tech, and stronger competition, which usually translates to better performance, features, and pricing across the board.

For the wider e-moto world, it’s clear that traditional ICE powerhouses aren’t stepping aside from the electric space. And Vida now represents a rider-for-life pipeline — starting young and scaling up to full-size machines.

The caveats? Rollout timelines are still speculative, especially outside India, and first-generation platforms may face teething issues or regional adaptation challenges. Still, for riders and buyers alike, it’s good news that Hero is backing electric with serious intent — all under one unified brand.

Ride safe, folks.
