Evoke’s 6061-GT Is Taking Aim at Every Electric Motorcycle Weakness

Range, charging, speed and long-distance riding have all been sticking points for electric motorcycles. Evoke reckons it can tackle all four with one very large grand tourer.

The 6061-GT brings a huge battery, high-voltage system, serious performance and DC fast charging to the fight, with some pretty big numbers attached to all of them.

Big Battery, Big Numbers

Evoke’s 6061-GT is not trying to be the lightest, cheapest or simplest electric motorcycle on the road. It’s going after a much bigger target: just about every complaint riders have about electric bikes.

At the heart of the 6061-GT is a 29.8 kWh battery pack. That is enormous by motorcycle standards, and Evoke claims up to 660 km (410 miles) of city range, with around 495 km (307 miles) in mixed riding. Highway range is lower, as you would expect, but the company still quotes more than 330 km (205 miles).

Range is one thing. Having enough of it to ride an electric motorcycle properly on the open road is another.

Evoke has also gone big on voltage. The 6061-GT uses a 336V battery system, giving it the electrical muscle to deliver serious power while supporting DC fast charging. Evoke says the bike can reach 80% charge in around 30 minutes as standard. There’s also an optional 6061-XR upgrade for riders who want faster charging. The package adds an ultra-fast DC charger and upgraded cooling, cutting the claimed 80% charge time from 30 minutes to 15.

Then there is the performance. The 6061-GT produces 90 kW, with a claimed 230 km/h (143 mph) top speed. That puts it firmly into proper motorway and high-speed touring territory rather than the urban commuter category where electric motorcycles often make the most sense.

On paper, Evoke has attacked the usual electric motorcycle complaints from several directions at once. Big battery for range. High voltage for power and charging. Big motor for speed. Fast charging for longer trips.

But there is a fairly obvious trade-off. The 6061-GT weighs around 320 kg. That makes this a seriously substantial motorcycle before you even add luggage, a rider and whatever else gets thrown onto it for a long weekend away. The low 740 mm seat height should make getting aboard easier, but this is still a lot of motorcycle to manoeuvre at walking pace.

Evoke lists the 6061-GT at $23,995 in the US. Its dealer network covers North America, Europe and Oceania, with dealers listed in the USA, Canada, Italy, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand. The 6061 range is also sold through a distributor network in Spain and Portugal. Local pricing isn’t published on the 6061-GT page, so buyers will need to check with their nearest dealer.

The BCB Take

First, this isn’t a new motorcycle. Evoke updated the 6061-GT for 2024, and the bike has remained broadly unchanged since then. The big numbers we’re looking at today, the huge battery, 230 km/h (143 mph) top speed and 30-minute standard DC charging, were already there.

Evoke is basically trying to remove every excuse for not taking an electric motorcycle touring. Range anxiety? They give you nearly 30 kWh. Worried about charging? Plug into a DC car charger. Think electric bikes are slow? Try 230 km/h.

That is a pretty straightforward argument. But there is no free lunch here. A 29.8 kWh battery is a huge lump of hardware, and 320 kg is the price you pay for carrying it around.

Does it matter on the road? If the 6061-GT can deliver anything close to its claimed range while retaining proper high-speed performance and genuinely useful charging times, it could be one of the more convincing answers yet to the electric touring question.

But this is one bike where the numbers need to survive real-world seat time. Because solving the range problem by building a very heavy motorcycle is easy. Making that heavy motorcycle genuinely good to ride is the harder bit.

Ride safe, folks.
