ACU Gives Electric Enduro Bikes the Green Light

The UK's biggest motorcycle governing body has finally opened the door to electric enduro competition.
It won't change what most riders throw a leg over this weekend, but it marks another step towards electric motorcycles becoming part of mainstream motorcycle sport.
Electric Bikes Join the Grid
The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) has confirmed that electric motorcycles are now eligible to compete in ACU Enduro events, following an assessment by the ACU Enduro Commission. Entries will be subject to new safety requirements and technical guidance, with organisers able to access the latest information through the ACU's Sport80 platform.
For riders, that means bikes like the Stark VARG and other electric enduro machines can now line up in ACU-permitted events without relying on separate demonstration runs or unofficial classes.
According to the ACU, the decision follows discussions with its insurers to establish a framework that allows electric motorcycles to compete safely. The governing body says it will continue refining the regulations alongside event organisers as more electric bikes enter competition.
The move doesn't come out of nowhere. In June, the ACU announced the creation of a dedicated Electric Motorcycle Panel to help shape the future of electric competition across British motorcycle sport. At the time, it said electric motorcycles offered opportunities to grow participation and open up new venues thanks to their lower noise levels.
With around 2,000 ACU-permitted motorcycle events taking place across Great Britain every year, the decision gives electric off-road riders a much clearer route into organised competition.

This isn't a headline because suddenly everyone is going to swap their petrol enduro bike for an electric one.
It's important because another barrier has disappeared. Electric off-road bikes have proved they can handle tough terrain. Now the UK's governing body has officially made room for them in enduro competition. The next question isn't whether electric bikes belong on the start line, it's whether enough riders turn up to make the classes grow. If they do, the rulebook is finally ready for them.
