Dimentro Steps Into Big-League Territory with the Equator

Dimentro isn’t the biggest name in the electric motorcycle scene—yet. But their new Equator shows the kind of ambition and engineering daring that could earn them a seat at the big players’ table. This isn’t just another mid-range commuter step-through wrapped in glossy marketing; it’s a bike built around serious innovation in frame design, drivetrain tech, and rider-focused connectivity.

If the name Dimentro sounds familiar, it’s probably because their DP3 has already earned plenty of fans for being a rugged, versatile electric two-wheel roadster. We carry the DP3 ourselves, and it’s been a solid option for riders wanting a reliable daily e-moto. The Equator builds on that foundation, aiming higher with fresh design choices and next-generation engineering.

Built Different: One-Piece Aerospace Frame

Most electric bikes still rely on traditional welded frames. Dimentro decided to start fresh. The Equator uses aerospace-grade aluminium alloy, die-cast as a single piece under a staggering 4,100 tonnes of pressure. The result is a frame that’s both lighter and more rigid, with fewer stress points than a conventional multi-weld setup. For riders, that means sharper cornering response, improved high-speed stability, and—crucially—less long-term maintenance around weak joints. It’s the kind of frame tech we usually see in aviation or high-end EVs.

The CVT 4-in-1 Drive System

If the frame is the skeleton, the drivetrain is the heartbeat. Dimentro’s in-house CVT 4-in-1 Drive System is billed as the world’s first continuously variable transmission integrated with an electric motor package. It combines the permanent magnet motor, CVT, and controller in one IP67-sealed unit.

Why does that matter? Electric bikes usually deliver torque in a single-speed blast. That's great for acceleration, less great for efficiency at mixed speeds. The CVT smooths things out, providing seamless transitions across urban stop-go traffic or longer highway stretches. Riders get consistent torque, reduced vibration, and intelligent deceleration—all without juggling gears.

Power in the Pack

The Equator carries a removable 5 kWh LFP battery pack—enough for over 100 km of real-world range. While that doesn’t make it a touring monster, it’s right in the sweet spot for city commuters and short-range explorers. More importantly, it charges quickly: from 30% to 80% in about an hour on a fast charger. That kind of turnaround means a coffee stop could realistically get you another day of urban riding.

And because the pack is removable, apartment dwellers or riders without garage charging setups can simply bring it inside and plug it in. That flexibility makes the Equator more accessible in dense cities where charging infrastructure is still catching up.

Connected Riding, OTA Style

The Equator also comes fully integrated with Dimentro’s mobile app. This isn’t just about flashy dashboards—it means real-time diagnostics, GPS tracking, battery health reports, and even remote lock/unlock features. OTA (over-the-air) firmware updates are baked in too, which means the bike’s software can evolve long after you’ve rolled it off the lot. Safety features like hill-hold assist, slope detection, and lane-change alerts are already included, with the promise of future refinements delivered straight through the cloud.

Design Meets Practicality

Customisation is another angle where the Equator sets itself apart. Riders can swap out panels to change the bike’s look, and the ambient lighting system offers a ridiculous 16 million colour choices. That’s more of a lifestyle perk than a core riding feature, but it shows Dimentro’s attention to younger riders who want both utility and style.

Underneath, the engineering is refreshingly practical: the modular frame and wiring, reduces the parts count by about 30%. That not only simplifies assembly but also reduces potential maintenance headaches down the road.

The Company Behind the Bike

Dimentro Equator

Dimentro (sometimes shortened to Dimen) was founded in 2014 and has built its reputation on high-quality, robust two wheeled EVs. The Equator is developed in partnership with T&D, a Suzhou-based electric powertrain specialist, ensuring the bike’s drivetrain is every bit as engineered as its frame. Together, they’re trying to carve out a space where commuter-friendly e-motos don’t feel generic but instead stand out for structural quality and connected, tomorrow-ready features.

The Equator makes it clear that Dimentro isn’t content to stay in the small-brand lane. Their earlier DP3 proved they could deliver a solid, dependable commuter. Now, they’re moving into territory usually reserved for heavyweight OEMs. This feels less like a niche experiment and more like a statement of intent: Dimentro wants to be mentioned in the same breath as the majors. For riders, that’s a win — it means fresh competition, fresh ideas, and a brand hungry to prove itself.

Beyond the Equator, Dimentro’s line-up already shows impressive range. The DP3 has proven itself already. The DT Pro pushes the envelope with liquid immersion battery cooling technology — currently a rare feature in this segment. Meanwhile, the DT60 and DM series cover the more traditional step-through space, giving the brand a footprint that spans from everyday city utility to forward-leaning innovation.

Pricing and Availability

Dimentro hasn’t yet confirmed global rollout details, but we spoke to them earlier this week and the Equator will be certified for European and UK roads within the next two months (October). This is early doors stages and we'll have more info for you in the coming weeks. Prices are expected to be in the sub-£5000 mark (sub-€6000), but this isn't confirmed yet. As for the USA, Australia and rest of world, we'll keep you posted.

The Equator is clearly expected to target the premium-commuter segment rather than the budget end of the spectrum. That positioning makes sense given the technology onboard, which points to a higher-value product. If Dimentro have success in Europe, it could set the stage for a larger global roll-out.

Final Thoughts

For riders, the Equator sits firmly in the commuter-plus category: not a high-end performance beast, but far from a budget scooter. Its engineering choices—especially that aerospace frame and CVT system—make it one of the more technically interesting bikes in its class. Add in fast charging, modular design, and software that keeps getting smarter, and the Equator becomes a strong contender for anyone who wants their daily e-moto to feel a little more futuristic.

Ride safe, folks.
