Zero Motorcycles Is Finally Bringing DC Fast Charging

Zero is adding Level 3 DC fast charging to its Street and Dual Sport motorcycles, with the system also being developed as a retrofit for some older bikes.
The 30-Minute Charging Upgrade
The new system is designed to take compatible Zero motorcycles from 20% to 80% charge in under 30 minutes.
It will use a new CCS charging port and fast-charging module, with the system intended for Zero Street and Dual Sport models with battery capacities up to 17.3 kWh.
The important bit for existing owners is that Zero says it is also developing the setup as a retrofit accessory for Street and Dual Sport motorcycles from Model Year 2022 onwards. That means this isn't just a feature reserved for bikes rolling out of the factory.
Zero says the new charging system will arrive on new motorcycles later in 2027, although it hasn't yet confirmed pricing, exactly which models will be supported, or when the retrofit kit will become available.
And that's pretty much where the detail ends for now. Zero says more information will follow as development continues.
The BCB Take
Now this is the sort of electric motorcycle upgrade we like to see.
Range isn't the only thing that can make an electric bike awkward. If you're on a longer ride, getting back on the road quickly can matter just as much as how many miles the battery can theoretically deliver.
The retrofit angle is arguably even more important. If Zero can genuinely offer DC fast charging to 2022-onwards bikes without turning it into a wallet-emptying exercise, that gives existing owners a way to make their bikes more useful rather than simply watching newer models get the good stuff.
But we're going to hold off on the back-slapping until we know the price, supported models and real-world charging performance.
