Electric Motion Just Changed Its Formula. Here's What the 2027 Epure FACTOR-e Gets Right

Electric Motion has taken a new approach with its 2027 Epure FACTOR-e. Rather than simply adding more battery and calling it progress, the French company has gone back to the drawing board with the chassis, battery and riding position, while keeping the things that already make the bike unusual.

The new FACTOR-e is still a tiny, 73 kg electric trials bike with a four-speed gearbox, hydraulic clutch and enough torque to make the numbers on most petrol bikes look slightly silly.

The Battery Is the Big Change

The biggest change is hidden beneath the new bodywork. Electric Motion has replaced the previous 1.8 kWh and 2.5 kWh battery options with a new 2.0 kWh higher-voltage pack as standard. It uses a magnesium casing, weighs the same 11 kg as before and runs at 64.8 volts.

More importantly, it can still be removed in under 60 seconds. And if 2.0 kWh isn't enough, you can carry a second battery and double your usable capacity to 4.0 kWh. Electric Motion is also introducing a battery rental and subscription programme, aimed at riders who don't want to buy an additional battery outright. So riders don't necessarily have to buy a second pack just to use it occasionally.

That makes quite a lot of sense on a trials bike. You're not hauling around several hundred kilos of motorcycle, and you don't need to spend the entire afternoon travelling at motorway speeds. You can keep a spare pack in the truck and, when the battery runs out, swap it.

The higher-voltage 2 kWh pack is intended to help the FACTOR-e maintain its performance as the battery charge falls. That should also help reduce voltage sag, keeping the bike feeling more consistent as the battery runs down.

The chassis is new too, with mass centralisation, aluminium tie rods and slimmer bodywork. The riding position has been redesigned, while the new triple clamps offer four adjustment positions. There's also a new TFT display with a Trial Mode that includes a built-in section timer.

The motor remains an 18 kW peak unit, spinning to 14,000 rpm, with the four-speed gearbox and hydraulic diaphragm clutch retained. Electric Motion quotes 1,400 Nm in first gear. That's at the wheel after the gearing, not 1,400 Nm coming directly from the motor. The published nominal/continuous power is 5 kW.

The result is a bike weighing just 73 kg, with an 85 km/h top speed and claimed riding time of up to 3.5 hours on the single battery. That's a decent amount of time to spend bouncing off rocks before you need to swap the battery.

The BCB Take

Electric Motion hasn't tried to make the FACTOR-e into an electric version of something else. It has looked at what an electric trials bike actually needs and built around that.

A small, removable 2.0 kWh battery makes more sense to me than permanently carrying a much larger one. If you need more range, add another battery. If you don't, leave it at home. If cost is a pinch point, the battery rental offer is intriguing, but with pricing and the full details of the programme still to come, I'd want to know more about how it works and how empty it will leave my wallet.

Electric Motion isn't reinventing the trials bike. It's refining the formula around what electric power is actually good at. Instant torque and a lightweight package are doing something useful. Together, they make a compelling offer.

Ride safe, folks.
