Donut Turns Up the Heat: High-Temperature Test Results Land

Donut has dropped the next instalment in its battery independent validation series — this time focusing on high-temperature performance, another pressure point for electric motorcycles pushed hard in real-world conditions.

As with the rapid-charge test, the work was conducted by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, with Donut publishing supporting documentation alongside the video. Same format. Same lab environment. Same measurement protocol defined by Donut.

If you prefer the deep dive over the headlines, the full technical PDF and Donut video is linked further down this article.

Key Takeaways from the High-Temperature Test

  • Independent lab validation – Testing conducted and measured by VTT under controlled high-temperature conditions.

  • Elevated ambient exposure – The cell was subjected to sustained 100 degrees C ambient temperatures to evaluate stability and operational tolerance.

  • Thermal stability observed – No critical thermal event or runaway behaviour reported during the test window.

  • Voltage and performance tracking – Charge/discharge behaviour monitored throughout high-temperature exposure. Although not at full rates.

  • Safety envelope maintained – The battery reportedly remained within defined safety thresholds during the test conditions. However some delamination occurred, this could be counted as a fail, especially in real world environments.

  • Cell-level testing – As with prior releases, this remains cell-level validation. Pack integration and system-level cooling strategies will ultimately determine real-world performance.

  • Part of broader validation roadmap – High-temp performance joins rapid charging as one of several independent tests Donut says it will release.

The BCB Take

High temperature is where battery chemistry tends to get honest.

Fast charging grabs headlines. But heat kills longevity. Elevated ambient conditions accelerate degradation, stress materials, and expose weak points in design.

This release — like the rapid-charge test — doesn’t close the book. We still need repeated cycle data at temperature, long-duration soak tests, and eventually pack-level real-world validation under load. But the pattern here matters.

Donut continues to step into independent testing rather than talk around it. If that trend holds — and the data continues to land clean — the conversation around this chemistry will keep shifting, and believers as well as OEMs will continue lining up.

Ride safe, folks.
