Scooters That Just Work: Benzina Zero’s Approach

If you haven’t come across Benzina Zero yet, don’t worry—you’re not alone. While major names in the electric motorcycle world jostle for attention, Benzina Zero has been quietly building an impressive track record from its base in Brisbane, Australia.

Founded in 2019, Benzina Zero (Italian for "zero fuel") has taken a grounded approach to the light electric two-wheeler category. Rather than competing in the high-performance or adventure segments, they’ve focused on practical, accessible urban transport for both personal and commercial use. The result is a solid line-up of mopeds and scooters that feel purpose-built for real-world use.

The Line-up

Benzina Zero offers a compact but functional range of low-to-mid speed electric vehicles, each with a clear use case:

  • Duo: A utility-focused moped designed for simplicity and stability. With a top speed of 45 km/h (27 mph) and a range of up to 70 km (43 miles), it suits urban riders looking for a practical daily runabout. The open frame and modular design make it especially appealing for delivery use.

  • Duo+: A slightly sportier version of the Duo with a stronger motor and a top speed of up to 65 km/h (40 mph). It’s a natural fit for riders who want a bit more performance without stepping into full motorcycle territory.

  • City: This retro-styled scooter is Benzina’s take on the 50cc-equivalent classic. It shares the same speed and range as the Duo but wraps it in a more traditional scooter silhouette.

  • Sport: Topping out at 80 km/h (50 mph) and offering a range of up to 90 km (56 miles), this is the brand’s fastest option. Still lightweight and compact, it’s built for riders tackling quicker city routes.

  • V-Series: Currently represented by the V50, this model is aimed at shared mobility and delivery markets. With a modular design, swappable batteries, and app integration, it's built for fleet flexibility. The V10 has been mentioned in earlier materials but isn’t part of the current retail line-up.

A Practical Take

Benzina’s choices feel deliberate. They use components from known brands like Bosch, LG, and Samsung—not unusual in the industry, but a reliable baseline. The designs are clean and modern without being over-engineered. These aren’t scooters built to chase buzz—they’re made to get things done.

Environmental efforts, like promoting vehicle recyclability and planting native forests via Greenfleet, add a nice layer of responsibility to the operation. It's a solid effort—responsible, practical, and above the usual greenwashing.

Scaling Without the Noise

Benzina Zero has no confirmed presence in India or the United States at this time, and there are no public announcements suggesting expansion into those markets in the immediate future.

Benzina Zero is still under the radar in some markets, but their footprint is growing. They’ve established distribution in countries including Italy, the UK, Slovenia, Croatia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, New Zealand, and Finland. More could follow if their current momentum holds.

They recently raised AU$1 million in crowdfunding in under nine hours—funds earmarked for product development and international rollout. One model in development is the Duo Max, aimed at delivery and postal fleets.

They’ve partnered with Beam Global on the BeamWell™ project—a solar-powered, off-grid desalination unit designed to produce clean drinking water in crisis zones. The system is stationary but includes four Benzina Zero Duo mopeds, which are used to distribute the clean water and aid supplies locally. The first BeamWell unit was staged in Jordan before being deployed to Gaza, demonstrating a practical combination of water purification and e-mobility for humanitarian relief.

Where They’re Working

While Benzina isn’t a household name, they’re proving themselves in commercial settings. Their bikes are used by Domino’s, Pizza Hut, and Zoomo in Australia, and early reports suggest strong reliability. Benzina cites Pizza Hut reporting a 99.99% uptime for the V-Series in their fleet—impressive.

Comparable Market Players

Benzina Zero sits in an increasingly busy corner of the e-scooter world. Several other brands offer similar functionality and design thinking:

  • NIU (China): One of the most visible global players in the urban electric scooter segment. Models like the NQi and MQi offer similar speed, range, and app-connected functionality, with widespread use in both personal and fleet applications.

  • Silence (Spain): Known for their S01 and S02 scooters, Silence leans slightly more premium but targets the same market. The S02, in particular, is designed for fleet and delivery users and overlaps with Benzina's Duo+ and V-Series.

  • Yadea (China): A volume-focused giant, Yadea’s scooters mirror the utility-first approach seen in the Duo and City models, with swappable batteries and solid reliability. Yadea also produces the Kemper, an awesome, high-powered A2 sports bike with a 10-minute charge time.

  • Vmoto Soco (Australia/China): Models like the CUx and CPx sit in the same bracket—urban-friendly, modestly powered scooters with proven use in sharing schemes and commercial fleets.

These brands are all playing in the same field as Benzina Zero: not aiming to thrill, but to serve. Benzina's strength lies in its fresh design language and clear success in real-world applications, particularly in Australia's delivery and fleet sectors.

A Fresh Take on City Scooters

Benzina Zero isn’t trying to be the next big disruptor, and that’s probably to their credit. Their approach is measured: reliable tech, clean design, and obvious real-world use cases. For city riders, couriers, or shared fleets, they make a strong case for themselves.

No hype, no massive spec sheet—just good-looking, well-made electric vehicles with a clear purpose. In a market frequently divided between those prioritizing style and those pursuing high-end speed, Benzina Zero offers a welcome middle ground.

Ride safe, folks.
