Donut Fights Back

Donut Solid State Battery
Donut Solid State Battery

Since their announcement of the Donut Battery, Donut Lab has taken a proper kicking. Scroll their socials — or ours — and you’ll see it: seasoned riders, early adopters, engineers, even OEM suits openly questioning whether this so-called solid-state breakthrough is the real deal or just another PowerPoint prototype.

Today (20/02/26), Donut fired back.

They’ve launched a new domain — idonutbelieve.com — aimed squarely at the sceptics. No glossy hype reels. No vague promises. Just test data, they say.

The site is set up as a publishing hub for validation results and technical documentation related to the Donut Solid State Battery. Internationally respected VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland have been commissioned to conduct independent performance measurements and verify key characteristics.

According to Donut, full lab reports will be published alongside detailed video documentation walking through procedures, test setups, instrumentation, and raw outputs — not just summary slides. If they follow through, that means charge curves, thermal data, degradation cycles, energy density verification — the kind of numbers this crowd actually cares about.

Why This Matters

Solid-state has long been the promised upgrade for our sector — higher energy density, better thermal stability, faster charging. On paper, it tackles the core pain points electric motorcycles still wrestle with: weight, heat, and sustained high output.

But paper specs don’t survive race pace.

We’ve seen big chemistry claims before. Prototype cells that shine in controlled environments don’t always translate into pack-level durability under vibration, repeated fast charging, and aggressive discharge cycles.

By handing testing to an independent body like VTT, Donut shifts the conversation from marketing assertion to measurable performance. In a sector that lives and dies on torque delivery, heat control, and real-world cycle life, independent validation isn’t optional — it’s credibility.

If the data holds, this isn’t incremental. It’s game-changing and not just for the e-moto sector.

BCB Take

We’ve said from day one: Donut were sitting on something serious.

Bold claims demand proof — but bold innovation always attracts pushback. Stepping into independent validation instead of retreating only strengthens their position. And we’re watching the data closely.

If the numbers stack up, the tone across this sector will change fast — and the pack engineers at every serious OEM who publicly called Donut a scam? They’ll be eating humble pie in the paddock.

We'll be watching this one.

Ride safe, folks.
